My book

So I’m writing a book. “What is it about?” you ask. Well, hopefully you’ll help me figure that out. Here’s what I can tell you at the moment.

TITLE: Opportunities for Engagement:

SUBTITLE: Elements of Compelling Museum Experiences in a Digital Age

In an increasingly media-rich, experience driven society where competition for time and attention is at an all-time high, the challenges of designing compelling museum experiences are many and varied. This book digs deep beneath the hype to explore four elements of modern experience design–immersion, emotion, storytelling, and games– and explain why they can be supremely valuable tools for practitioners wanting to challenge the status quo of traditional museum experiences.

“Opportunities for Engagement” explores the research behind these elements to explain why they work, how they work, and how museums can use them effectively, both in-person and online. “Opportunities for Engagement” combines research and examples from inside and outside the cultural sector, interviews with leading practitioners across the field, and the author’s thirty years of experience developing visitor experiences in science, art, and history museums.
